Island Harbour Marina has a vacancy for a part-time seasonal lock-keeper. The successful candidate must be dependable and reliable and be able to remain calm under pressure in what is often a hectic role. As well as operating our lock controls to allow pleasure craft in and out of the marina, the lock-keeper's role is to help our customers both on the telephone and in person at our reception desk. A high level of customer service is therefore required. You must be organised, friendly and also be reasonably numerate in order to calculate berthing charges for our customers.
A marine background will be beneficial, although not essential as full training will be given. A uniform will also be provided. The successful candidate will have to be able to work on most weekends to assist in covering the lock opening times of 08:00 to 21:00 and also in the evenings between the hours of 17:00 to 21:00 during the week. Rotas are rotated each week.
The successful candidate will also need to have a moderate level of fitness as part of the duties are working on the lock-side, assisting the boats in the lock and with frequent use of stairs.
